Epping Ongar Railway

London's heritage railway

Region: South Type: Standard Gauge Era: Victorian

The Epping Ongar Railway is a unique heritage railway that was once part of the London Underground Central Line. Running 5.5 miles from Epping to Ongar in Essex, the railway offers a fascinating blend of Underground and mainline railway heritage.

The line closed to London Underground services in 1994 after 125 years of operation but has been lovingly restored by volunteers. Today, visitors can ride vintage trains along the former tube line through beautiful Essex countryside, experiencing a unique piece of London Transport history.

The railway operates both heritage London Underground trains and classic steam and diesel locomotives. With children’s tickets at just £1, it offers exceptional value for families. The railway also operates vintage bus services connecting with trains.
